Project Overview
Fairtex executed the replacement of damaged barbed wire systems for OML 102 OFDI & OFDI facilities at the OFON Offshore Platform for Total. The scope formed part of offshore infrastructure maintenance activities focused on restoring perimeter protection integrity and supporting continued operational security across designated offshore access areas.
The intervention included controlled removal of deteriorated barbed wire sections, installation of replacement security barriers, offshore access coordination, and execution within elevated working conditions on an active offshore production facility.
The Challenge
Sections of existing barbed wire systems across the offshore platform had experienced deterioration and physical damage resulting from prolonged marine exposure, corrosion conditions, and operational wear. The damaged sections created infrastructure protection vulnerabilities requiring planned intervention to maintain offshore security requirements and asset protection standards.
Execution activities were performed within a live offshore operational environment with restricted working areas, elevated access exposure, and continuous platform operations. The offshore location introduced additional challenges associated with wind loading, salt-laden atmospheric conditions, material handling limitations, and controlled personnel movement.
Visible site conditions required technicians to execute installation activities along elevated platform edges using secured access arrangements and fall-protection systems while coordinating material positioning and staged replacement works.
Execution was coordinated under offshore-safe work controls with elevated access management, phased installation sequencing, and continuous adherence to platform operational requirements.
Our Approach
Fairtex implemented a phased offshore maintenance execution strategy covering inspection of damaged sections, workface planning, offshore mobilization, controlled removal of deteriorated wire assemblies, and installation of replacement barbed wire systems across affected locations.
The installation methodology incorporated elevated access procedures, secure technician positioning, corrosion-conscious handling practices, and controlled fastening techniques suitable for offshore environmental conditions. Personnel operated using certified fall-arrest equipment and coordinated access systems during installation activities along platform perimeter areas.
Execution sequencing was planned to maintain operational continuity while minimizing interference with ongoing offshore production activities and routine platform movement.
Phased Delivery
Assessment & Planning
Initial inspection activities identified damaged and deteriorated barbed wire sections requiring replacement. Offshore work planning included access review, material staging requirements, personnel coordination, and task sequencing for elevated installation activities.
Mobilization
Materials, installation tools, safety equipment, and offshore personnel were mobilized to the OFON Platform under controlled logistics coordination and offshore permit-to-work procedures.
Removal & Replacement
Damaged wire sections and associated components were systematically removed and replaced using controlled installation procedures. The replacement works included alignment adjustment, secure fixing, and installation verification across designated areas.
Validation & Close-Out
Completed sections underwent visual verification and installation review to confirm continuity of the barrier system, structural stability of installed components, and suitability for continued offshore service exposure.
Outcome
The completed works restored perimeter protection conditions across affected offshore platform areas and reduced exposure associated with damaged security barrier infrastructure. The intervention supported continued offshore operational security while improving maintainability and structural condition of the installed systems.
The project was completed within active offshore operating conditions through coordinated execution planning, elevated access control, and phased intervention management aligned with platform operational requirements.
